So, I've been trying to get some sort of emergency water storage in place and I want one of those huge 55-gallon blue water barrels. There are scads of places in Utah to buy them; they keep popping up whenever I google water storage containers. But finding them in Portland is a royal pain. I've called just about everywhere I can think of, but this is how the exchange goes:
Me: "Hi, do you carry those huge 55-gallon blue water barrels?"
Store: "Uh...yeah, I think so. You mean a 5-gallon drink cooler, right?"
Me: "No, 55 gallons. They're for emergency water storage."
Store: (silence)
Me: "They're really huge. They weigh like 400 lbs. when full."
Store: "Oh, whoa, no. We don't have anything like that."
I even called the Red Cross Preparedness center to see if they knew where I could find one. No dice. I don't think anyone up here knows what I'm talking about.
Sigh.
I guess we'll have to import.
