The other day, Gary asked me, "If you had to describe Gregory in one word, what would it be?" I thought about it for a second and then right as I started opening my mouth to answer, Gary offered up his answer. And as it so happens, it was exactly the same word I was about to say.
Left-headed. My child likes to lay on the left side of his head. In fact, he insists upon it. He also likes looking to his left. And he only pays attention to the left-hand pages of books. This isn't my fault. Nor is it a recent development. When I was pregnant, Gregory only let me sleep in one position; he would flip out if I turned any other way. And guess how he was positioned? On the left side of his head. So it continues. Naturally, because he's a baby with shifting skull plates, his head is getting lopsided. So his doctor showed us how to do head stretches with him. Basically, several times a day, we have to turn his head in certain ways and hold it for 15 seconds so his neck muscles will become stronger and more flexible. The theory is that he'll eventually lose the left-headed preference. It's weird how proud a mother can be of certain stuff, but whenever I see him laying on the right side of his head, I want to go out and buy a bumper sticker about it. Gary is one of the most even-tempered people I know. He's rarely passionately against anything, so it can be pretty entertaining when he is. We were watching TV the other day and stopped breifly on a craft show. This is Gary's reaction to what he saw:
"Ugh! Glitter! No! (pause) Wow, I'm so glad we had a boy. I forgot about glitter. It's so gross..." Moral of the story: Try to give Gary something with glitter on it. It'll be really fun. |
