Sometimes in life, I learn something that feels like it should be common knowledge, but I somehow never knew about it. Like that "tarp" is short for "tarpaulin". I'm always left wondering if I just somehow missed the boat on some really obvious stuff.
So here's what happened recently:
I bought black olives at the grocery store. They didn't have the usual brand that I buy, so I got a different kind. When I was opening the can yesterday, I noticed that nowhere on the label did it say that they were "black" olives. There was a picture of black olives, but no mention of them being black. Instead, it kept saying "ripe olives". After a few minutes of "huh-that's-strange", I suddenly went, "WHOA! Wait! Are green olives just not-ripe olives? Like green apricots?"
I googled it. Turns out, olives are not like different colors of grapes, like I always assumed. Black olives are just ripened green olives.
Is this one of those "uh yeah, duh, Jody" things or is your mind blown too?
